Lloyd’s ‘Father of the House’ Michael Meacock passes at 85
Michael Meacock, active underwriter of the syndicate that bore his name and known on the Lime Street floor as ‘Father of the House’ passed at age 85 while on holiday with family.
“He was known for his reliability in generating a healthy return to investors in the most challenging market cycles,” Lloyd's services and syndicate management firm Hampden said amongst the tributes published Wednesday. They cited Syndicate 727’s average annual gross profit on capacity of 8.5% between 1999 - 2020.
“We don’t know of any underwriter in Lloyd’s history with such a long tenure in the market and we are sure that none will have such a distinguished track record,” officials at Argenta said in their tribute, citing Meacock’s assumption of the active underwriter role at 727 in 1967.
Meacock’s deputy underwriter, Alec Taylor, will assume overall responsibility for underwriting for Meacock syndicate 727 on an interim basis.
