Best Reinsurance Broker for Innovation (revenues of more than $1bn) winner: Guy Carpenter

The broker received plentiful praise for its innovation, with a number of respondents commenting on experience within the teams. One respondent added that the team has an “exceptional client focus”, while another said the team has “great minds”. Yet another added that the team is “able to think outside the box”.

Guy Carpenter also received praise on its proactive approach on tougher coverages and its ability to offer solutions for young start-ups and to put in a place a number of cat products.

Speaking from experience, one respondent added that Guy Carpenter has “models which augment our work for creative solutions”.

Aon Benfield pulled into second place with a score of 6.89 out of 10. The broker received numerous positive comments on its ability to innovate.

The staff at Aon Benfield were particularly praised as being educated and experienced, with a “large team dedicated to thinking outside the normal boundaries”. Another respondent added that the broker has “strong analytical tools and brokers who know how they work”.

The broker was also praised on its ability always to come up with new solutions, many of which are capital-efficient. One respondent said that Aon Benfield offers the “best approach to capital market investors”, while another added that the broker “continues to impress with its reach and focus”.

A number of respondents added that the broker was driving new products in the reinsurance market with a strong focus on new lines of business. One respondent added that this was not a new turn of events and that there had been a long-term consistency in creating new solutions.

Willis Re took third place with a score of 6.71 out of 10. Part of the world’s oldest insurance broker, Willis, Willis Re garnered a number of positive comments throughout the survey.

The brokering giant is a respected industry leader and was praised for its proactivity and experience.

Its team were praised as “very innovative and deep thinkers” by one respondent. Another commented that they were “eager to find suitable solutions for their clients”, while another added that Willis Re was “exceptionally thorough in its approach”.

The broker was also commended on its international network and its strength in central Europe. Respondents applauded the broker on making new product development a top priority as it continued to identify new areas of interest. It was also commended on ensuring its solutions coordinated with companies’ systems.

The companies in the shortlists seen here were selected based on the first stage of the research, conducted via phone interviews and open online polls. Respondents were asked to name three companies they regard highly in this category. They were then asked to give details of why they had chosen these firms.

The shortlist for this category reflects the companies mentioned the most frequently.

The researchers then approached the market a second time and, using this shortlist presented in a random order, asked respondents to score each company out of ten based on how they perceive the firm based on the criteria of this category. It is the results of this part of the survey that are shown here.

More than 500 respondents took part in each part of the survey respectively.

The score shows the average score out of ten that each company received in stage two of the survey.
