Best Reinsurance Broker for Client Responsiveness (revenues of more than $1bn) winner: Guy Carpenter

Part of the Marsh & McLennan companies, Guy Carpenter provides a global service and was founded in 1922 by Guy Carpenter—a man looking for a better way to insure the Cotton Insurance Association. With more than 50 offices worldwide, the broker employs more than 2,000 professionals and was praised continuously throughout the survey.

The broker was applauded on its “excellent understanding of the reinsurance market dynamics” and its responsive and pragmatic approach.

A number of respondents praised Guy Carpenter on its client focus with one respondent adding that the broker was “highly capable of putting themselves in the client’s shoes”.

Guy Carpenter’s leadership and staff were particularly valued in this section with a number of respondents making positive comments. “Their leadership allows them to continue resurgence despite a drop in premium rates,” said one respondent. Another added that the team was “professional, friendly and balanced”.

One respondent said that “they are trying harder and making a difference”, while another added that the broker has a “great global and local operation”.

Many respondents noted that the broker was able to offer a full suite of services to clients which were “transparent, timely and reliable”. The broker’s extra services, such as modelling assistance, were also highly commended.

Aon Benfield secured second place with a score of 6.84 out of 10. Praised for its market knowledge and broad range of services, the company was well regarded.

“There is a reason they are number one—they can, and do, do everything,” said one respondent. Another added that the company was “accurate and efficient”.

The team at Aon Benfield were also applauded by a number of respondents. One respondent said they are “quality individuals who focus on client needs tempered by the knowledge of technical issues”, while another added they were “always willing to help”.

One respondent added that he believed Aon Benfield “remained number one by being focused on critically important clients”, while another added that they have “a good mix of business side and technical understanding of risk”.

Willis Re took third place with a score of 6.74 out of 10. The broker received a number of positive comments on its team and their approach to clients.

“Very attentive to client needs and solutions,” said one respondent, while another said the broker was “focused on achieving the best terms and conditions for their clients”. Another respondent added that “across the board, people are prepared to assist”.

The capital markets team was highly praised with one respondent adding that it “works above and beyond to get the deal done for their client”.

Transparency in communication was also highlighted for the broker, along with a low error rate and professionalism.

One respondent said that the broker has added some strong capabilities over the last year while another added that the broker always provided swift and dedicated responses.

The companies in the shortlists seen here were selected based on the first stage of the research, conducted via phone interviews and open online polls. Respondents were asked to name three companies they regard highly in this category. They were then asked to give details of why they had chosen these firms.

The shortlist for this category reflects the companies mentioned the most frequently.

The researchers then approached the market a second time and, using this shortlist presented in a random order, asked respondents to score each company out of ten based on how they perceive the firm based on the criteria of this category. It is the results of this part of the survey that are shown here.

More than 500 respondents took part in each part of the survey respectively.

The score shows the average score out of ten that each company received in stage two of the survey.
