Sompo snags AXA XL talent as European marine, specialty head

Specialty re/insurer  Sompo International has hired a senior AXA XL executive as head of Head of marine & specialty insurance for Continental Europe.

René Huber (pictured) joins Sompo International, based in Zurich, Switzerland. He will report to Ralph Brand, president Continental Europe Insurance.

Huber has over 25 years’ experience in multinational business, with a focus on specialty and marine products. He joins from AXA XL where he was senior manager of global programmes business.

Brand said: “The European Specialty market is forecast to grow substantially every year for the next decade. René’s reputation, extensive experience and industry knowledge will be pivotal for Sompo International as we continue to develop our presence in this exciting and constantly evolving area. He will be responsible for developing our Specialty/Marine underwriting and distribution strategy, sustainably growing the book and building a strong team across Continental Europe. I truly look forward to working with him.”
