Sompo brings in 42-year AIG veteran to boost its global growth platform

Japan-based global insurer  Sompo has brought in a 42-year AIG veteran to back the unit it has tasked with explosive growth onto the global P&C stage.

Nicholas Walsh (pictured) joins the board of directors at  Sompo International after having dominated AIG's P&C business over the course of a 42-year tenure. Walsh retired in 2014 as vice chair of AIG Property and Casualty and previously served as executive vice president of AIG and CEO of AIG’s international general insurance business.

Walsh is likewise a socialite of non-executive circles, having been independent director of McGill and Partners units, and units of the brokerage Jardine Lloyd Thompson.

Sompo International CEO James Shea commented: “Nic is a respected leader with over 50 years’ experience in insurance. His expertise and guidance will be invaluable to  Sompo International as we expand and grow our business while leading with our core values and putting our customers and trading partners at the centre of everything we do.”
