Sompo plucks Generali leader to build out A&H capability in Europe

Bermuda specialty re/insurer  Sompo International has hired a new European head of accident and health (A&H) from the Generali Group.

Based in Milan, Italy, Stefano Chiurlo (pictured) comes to Sompo International with more than 15 years of insurance experience. He has held a number of senior technical and leadership roles in the A&H segment with Generali Group, AXA XL, XL Catlin, AXA Italy, ACE and AIG.

Most recently, Chiurlo was group head of health and accident for Generali.

In his new role as head of A&H Europe, Chiurlo will have responsibility for developing and overseeing the implementation of Sompo's A&H underwriting and distribution strategy across Europe.

Patrick Corbett, executive vice president, global head of A&H at Sompo International Insurance, said: “Stefano is a fantastic addition to the Sompo International team and his appointment is the latest development in the building out of our A&H capability beyond a traditional London wholesale offering into the UK, Europe and around the world.

“His wealth of experience in his field, knowledge of the European and global markets and commercial mindset will be instrumental in driving our ambitious growth strategy.”
