Munich Re Specialty Insurance picks ex-Zurich veteran as CEO

Munich Re Specialty Insurance (MRSI), a part of global reinsurer  Munich Re, has appointed a new president and chief executive officer. The industry veteran led its excess and surplus lines business and previously spent 25 years in several leadership positions at Zurich North America.

Sabrina Hart (pictured) will take up the top post at MRSI from May 1. She has served as interim CEO since January 2023 when former CEO Michael Kerner was appointed as a member of the Munich Re board of management, Global Specialty Insurance (GSI) division.

Hart will report to Kerner and will also serve as a member of the GSI executive leadership team.

Hart joined MRSI in 2022 as president of excess and surplus lines (E&S). Prior to her tenure at MRSI, she spent 25 years with global insurance carrier Zurich, the last seven years as executive vice president, Midwest region for Zurich North America. She also held senior leadership positions with Marsh and AIG.

“Sabrina’s extensive industry experience and strong underwriting acumen, coupled with her proven leadership ability and collaborative nature, make her uniquely qualified to guide MRSI moving forward,” said Kerner. “I have had the pleasure of working with Sabrina throughout her career and have tremendous confidence in her ability to lead the growth and development of our specialty P&C businesses within MRSI.”
