Lockton mulls big Nordic expansion with new office and senior hires throughout 2023
Global re/insurance broker Lockton’s growth strategy in the Scandinavian market would see it open a new office in Sweden, alongside existing in Denmark and Norway, with a host of senior hires throughout 2023 in response to growing “demand in the region” for all specialty and commercial lines.
The broker is opening an office in Stockholm, Sweden that will sit alongside Lockton’s established offices in Denmark and Norway, the latter of which recently merged with Edge Group, a large independent marine broker in the Scandinavian market.
The office is expected to be operational by the end of January, with the arrival of two key hires and industry experts, Linda Fihlen and Niklas Thorell.
Lockton’s plan is to further invest in attracting more senior talent in Sweden and throughout the wider region to serve the growing demand and expand the business, which will serve clients across all specialty and general commercial insurance lines. Associates joining the firm will work seamlessly across borders as part of the broker’s global team.
Lockton in Sweden will provide cover across most existing Nordic product lines, working alongside other Lockton associates globally to continue to provide service to local, regional, and international clients. Lockton in Sweden plans to broaden its offerings in the coming months as it builds out its team of industry experts.
EJ Hentenaar, Lockton’s European chief executive officer, explained: “Lockton is highly invested in the region, there is incredible talent and we are thrilled to be building a team in Sweden, alongside our established businesses in Norway and Denmark. As ever, our focus is on providing an outstanding service to our clients, and the opening of our office in Stockholm means we will be well placed to bring our proposition to even more clients in the region.
“We established Lockton Norway 11 years ago, started our fabulously successful Denmark office over two years ago and, since then, our Nordic business continues to go from strength to strength. We see so many opportunities for the future and are excited to continue building Lockton in the region, with a clear focus on meeting client needs and preserving our unique, caring culture.
Hentenaar added: “Our people are very much at the centre of this expansion, and we continue to invest to attract and retain the very best talent, whilst providing the opportunities for growth that come with being part of the world’s largest privately-owned insurance broker.”
