Liberty makes strategic move into LatAm with new Lloyd's Mexico reinsurance unit
Liberty Mutual Re, the reinsurance arm of Liberty Specialty Markets (LSM), is launching a new operation under Lloyd’s registration in Mexico to serve clients in the Mexican market and Central America.
The operation will be headed up by Rosa Flores, general manager, who joins from agribusiness technical consultancy Green Mex where she was CEO. Prior to that, she worked for Willis Towers Watson as head of treaty for Mexico where she spent eight years in total.
Flores has over 18 years’ experience in the Mexican market, her specialism is agribusiness and catastrophic perils. She will report to José Ernesto Ospina, LatAm regional manager in Colombia and will work closely with the underwriting team in Europe and Colombia.
The Mexico reinsurance team will provide property, casualty and specialty treaty reinsurance solutions, which will be underwritten by Liberty Mutual Re in Europe.
LSM said the launch of business in Mexico is a key step in the strategy to grow its global business and demonstrates the importance of LatAm to the business.
Miguel Martinez, head of business development at Liberty Mutual Re said: “Mexico is the largest reinsurance market in Latin America. Liberty Mutual Re did not have local representation for treaty reinsurance business until now, and establishing a local operation within Lloyd’s shows our commitment to our Mexican clients and the importance we place on this market.
"It will add to our presence in Brazil and Colombia in the region. We have known Rosa for a number of years and are delighted that she has joined LM Re to be our local representative for the Mexican and Central American Market.”
