Howden launches marine & energy business in Norway with WTW leader

International insurance broker  Howden has launched its marine and energy business in Norway with the hiring of a  Willis Towers Watson (WTW) leader, in a move to drive growth across the Nordic region.

The new initiative will be led by Frode Lund (pictured), who will assume the position from August 2023 once his contractual obligations have been fulfilled.

Trading as Howden Norway & Marine Energy AS, the business will form part of the local Howden broking operations, and will work closely with Howden’s international marine & energy specialty teams.

Lund will join from WTW, where his current role is executive director, head of marine & energy (oil & gas). Prior to that, he was based in Dubai as regional practice leader, marine. He has been with WTW for more than 14 years.

Howden established its operations in Norway in 2013 and has since expanded its headcount to 50 employees in Oslo and Bergen through organic growth and selective acquisitions. The initiative will further boost Howden’s local presence and strengthen its capabilities across the region.

Anders Kvan, CEO of Howden Norway, said: “We are delighted to welcome Frode Lund to Howden Norway and to launch our Marine & Energy offering. Operating in the region for a decade, Howden has grown into a leading onshore energy broker with a significant presence in Oslo and Bergen. The establishment of a Marine & Energy business, led by seasoned industry specialist Frode, will further enhance our current capabilities and provide value-added services, particularly in the fast growing energy transition and renewables sector.”

Daniel Whiteside, managing director and global head of marine, Howden, commented: "As part of Howden’s global growth strategy for our Marine & Energy capabilities, establishing a business in Norway was a logical next step. Utilising the significant expertise we possess, and with the support of Frode, we will continue to provide clients with a tailored and high quality experience.”

Luigi Sturani, CEO of Howden Europe, added: “Howden continues to strengthen its position as one of the leading brokers in Europe, capable of providing scale, expertise and bespoke solutions to clients. The success of our European operations in Marine & Energy highlights the growing need for alternative, on-the-ground solutions and with our ability to attract and retain the best local talent, we continue to build on our ambition to become the broker of choice in Europe.”
