Howden attracts 40-year bloodstock insurance veteran for equine build out
International insurance broker Howden has continued the build out of its equine leadership with the hiring of a 40-year experienced bloodstock insurance market executive, following the recent appointment of industry veteran David Long as chair of the division, as it looks to cement its position as the leading equestrian insurance intermediary.
Mike Godfrey joins Howden as executive director and head of its equine division, part of its sports & entertainment practice.
With almost 40 years’ experience in the bloodstock insurance market, Godfrey started his career in 1984 with J.H. Minet. He subsequently joined the leading bloodstock team at Howard Global before the firm was purchased by Integro in 2014, latterly becoming Tysers.
Based in London and reporting to Duncan Fraser, global practice leader, sport & entertainment, Godfrey will focus on growing Howden’s bloodstock client base, with a particular focus on the UK, US and Australasia.
Fraser said: “Following the recent appointment of David Long to Chair our Equine practice, Mike’s appointment reflects our continued strategy to attract and recruit the best talent in this specialty market to enhance the scale, depth and expertise of our equestrian insurance offering. With our established ties to the equestrian world, our Equine team offers decades of experience in designing products for businesses and horse owners around the world. We will continue to hire experienced individuals with specialist expertise to provide more choice and a fresh alternative for Equine clients and to become the clear leader for clients seeking equestrian insurance solutions.”
