Everest Re shakes up Canada operations leadership in expansion move
Everest Re Group has made two high-profile appointments to expand its reinsurance operations and strengthen the carrier’s market position in Canada.
Scott Paddington (pictured right) has been promoted to chief agent and chief underwriting officer of Everest Reinsurance Canada, with Russ Lewis (pictured left) named chairman of the unit. Both reporting directly to Jill Beggs, head of North America Reinsurance at Everest.
Paddington will oversee the operations of Everest’s reinsurance business in Canada, and Lewis, in this newly created position, will represent Everest in the market and continue to provide strategic counsel to Everest’s reinsurance business in Canada and globally.
Paddington joined Everest in 2010 to lead the growth and profitability of its portfolio. Previously, he worked as a financial advisor at Nesbitt Burns, in insurance at Empyrean and in reinsurance at Guy Carpenter Canada, as well as at various Canadian banks where he developed expertise in both capital markets and global risk management.
Over his 30-year career at Everest, Lewis led a team that grew the Canadian. Earlier in his career, he gained reinsurance expertise at Prudential and General Reinsurance.
Everest Re said the appointments are part of the company’s “continued investments in its deep bench of reinsurance talent and strategic goals.”
“ Everest’s leadership in the global reinsurance market can be credited to its exceptional team of talent. Scott’s diverse banking, broker and financial advising background, coupled with his tenure at Everest uniquely positions him to drive the Everest reinsurance business forward,” said Beggs.
“We are also looking forward to working closely with Russ in this new strategic role. Russ has been an integral part of our Canada operation expansion and establishing Everest as the market leader we are today.”
