Everest Re reinsurer nabs key PGGM director for COO role
Everest Re Group’s specialist reinsurer Mt. Logan Re has hired an experienced credit and insurance-linked investments specialist from PGGM for the role of chief operating officer (COO).
Youssef Sfaif (pictured) will join Mt. Logan Re as COO, effective 1 July 2022. He will report to Mt. Logan Re president John Modin, who said Sfaif will play a key role in the company’s growth to help expand its capital base and breadth of offerings.
Sfaif has a “deep specialisation” in capital markets and reinsurance convergence, as well as an “exemplary” track record originating, structuring and executing across a broad array of re/insurance risk-sharing transactions, Mt. Logan said.
He currently serves as a director within the credit and insurance linked investments (CILI) team of PGGM, where he has led or been a key deal team member for the structuring of insurance linked investments across sidecars, rated reinsurer joint ventures and collateralised reinsurance funds. He has also contributed significantly, Mt. Logan said, to the CILI team’s portfolio management efforts.
Prior to joining PGGM in 2017, Sfaif worked in the structured reinsurance business at SCOR Global P&C and Marsh where he designed “tailored and capital-efficient” reinsurance and risk financing solutions across a variety of non-life risks, Mt. Logan said.
Modin said: “Youssef joins a deep bench of multi-disciplined leaders who are successfully steering the development of our innovative investment products and bespoke portfolios for our institutional investors around the world.”
“Youssef is recognised for his innovative approach to the insurance linked securities sector, and his institutional investment background in this asset class is highly complementary to our business. He also brings a unique buyside perspective, which will provide an advantage as we grow operationally and continue to deepen relationships with leading asset managers, pensions, sovereign wealth funds, insurers and endowments,” he concluded.
