Carbon poaches underwriter from Marine Aviation & General
Carbon Underwriting (Carbon), the specialist, independent managing general underwriter (MGU), has hired an experienced underwriter in general liability and property risks to boost its offering.
Giovanni Schiattarella will focus on expanding Carbon’s existing general liability and property books of business as well as new business development across Europe. Prior to joining Carbon, Giovanni was a broker for seven years, most recently with Marine Aviation & General as head of property and liability where he managed a portfolio of Italian liability business.
Previously, he was an account executive with BDB, managing an extensive portfolio of international liability business on behalf of Lloyd’s.
Nick Tye, Active Underwriter Syndicate 4747 and executive director of Carbon Underwriting, said: “I am always pleased to welcome new talent to Carbon and Giovanni’s wealth of international broking experience will bring fresh ideas and expertise to our growing business. Europe represents an important part of our strategy and our focus remains on value, not volume, whereby we partner with the strongest and most dynamic market players. I am delighted that Giovanni has joined us and I look forward to working with him as we continue to evolve our data-driven underwriting capabilities to deliver sustained profitable growth.”
Schiattarella added: “I am delighted to have joined Carbon and to be working with such a talented and forward-thinking team. The markets in Europe represent an opportunity to develop our existing books of business and new business development and we plan to do this in a measured way with a sharp focus on data-driven underwriting discipline. Our aim, with the support of advanced technology, is to be recognised as a lead market for both European GL and Property Coverholder business. I am looking forward to using my extensive experience of European insurance markets and strong network of contacts to expand Carbon’s presence across the region.”
