Carbon Underwriting harnesses global coverholder network to support trees for cities
Carbon Underwriting Limited (Carbon), the specialist, independent managing general underwriter (MGU), has partnered with Trees for Cities to support tree planting in urban areas, as well as other community health and wellbeing projects. Carbon said it intends to become a globally carbon-neutral business by the end of 2022.
Carbon said it will work with its coverholder partners around the world to raise awareness and scale its contribution to Trees for Cities in line with its revenue growth.
Nick Tye, active underwriter Syndicate 4747 and executive director Carbon Underwriting, said:
“We are committed to sustainability and our responsibility towards the environment and supporting healthier communities. It’s important for all businesses to integrate environmental concerns into their products, services and operations to a greater extent than they have in the past, and the whole carbon team wants to get involved to make this a reality for our business, and for our global partners.
“We think this can be achieved by going paperless as far as possible, reducing unnecessary travel once the current lockdown restrictions are lifted, and accelerating our efforts to help our international coverholder partners address environmental concerns in their own businesses and embrace more efficient, digital trade.
“Our team is committed to supporting the excellent work that Trees for Cities undertake in communities up and down the country, while also striving to make our own operations carbon-neutral as quickly as possible, and ensure our coverholder partners are part of this journey.
“That is why there will be an alignment between the income generated by our global coverholders and the donations we will be making to Trees for Cities. That way, our coverholder partners will be able to see first-hand their contribution to the cause.”
Rory Field, corporate partnership director, Trees for Cities, added: “We’re really pleased to be working with the team at Carbon and look forward to getting stuck in with tree planting projects as well as revitalising forgotten spaces and creating healthier environments for communities.
“It’s important for Trees for Cities as a charity to engage multiple sectors, so it’s fantastic to have the support from the global Carbon network in raising awareness about our activities and ambitions in the re/insurance sector too. We’d encourage any other businesses interested in supporting us to get involved.”
