Atrium poaches marine hull and war underwriting leader from large re/insurer

Atrium Underwriting, the managing agent for Lloyd’s Syndicate 609, has hired a marine leader from AXA XL to help profitably grow its hull and war classes of business.

Mike MacColl (pictured) has been appointed as head of hull and war, reporting to head of marine David Sankey.

MacColl has over 35 years’ experience in the marine market having started his career at Lloyd’s Claims Office. He joins Atrium from AXA XL where he held the position of global head of marine hull and war underwriting. Prior to that, he spent 7 years as head of marine hull and war underwriting at Talbot Underwriting.

Sankey said: “Mike has outstanding marine market experience, his strong leadership skills combined with significant technical expertise and commercial awareness make him a great addition to the team. I look forward to working closely with him as we continue to drive profitable expansion across our marine hull business, whilst also building on Atrium’s leading position in the Hull War market.”

MacColl commented: “As a top-quartile Lloyd’s syndicate, Atrium is known market-wide as a first-class business. I look forward to being part of the team and helping to profitably grow their Hull and War classes of business.”
