Acrisure mulls big European expansion: hires WTW veteran, eyes growth through M&A
Global re/insurance broker Acrisure has launched a new subsidiary covering the German, Austrian and Swiss markets, to be led by a Willis Towers Watson veteran of 19 years, as it looks to build out its presence in Central Europe through M&A.
Mathias Pahl (pictured) will serve as president of the new subsidiary Acrisure Deutschland GmbH and head of DACH (Germany, Austria and Switzerland) with immediate effect.
Pahl is an insurance leader with three decades of experience. He joins Acrisure from Willis Towers Watson where he spent 19 years managing its German division, most recently as CEO of Willis Germany and Austria. Prior to WTW, he worked for eight years at Aon.
In his new role, Pahl will be responsible for building out P&C operations including through potential acquisitions. He will be based in Munich and report to Jason Howard, president of Acrisure International and chairman of Acrisure Re.
Howard said: “We are rapidly expanding in our target geographies and the DACH region is a market with incredible potential and opportunity. Launching Acrisure Deutschland GmbH will give Acrisure and our partners direct access to the Central European markets and we look forward to further growth across the region.
“Mathias is the ideal candidate to lead this expansion,” he added. “He has a wealth of expertise and extensive long-standing relationships which will be incredibly valuable. I look forward to working with him as we look for brokers who align with our specialism and culture of innovation and entrepreneurialism.”
Pahl commented: “Acrisure is the fastest growing Insurance broker in industry history and continues to innovate, transform and differentiate from other players in the market. Its extensive network offers incredible opportunity for its broking partners to access global markets. I look forward to working with Jason and the broader team as we build Acrisure’s presence in Central Europe.”
