Aeolus hires cat modeling expert to lead new research unit
Bermuda-based Aeolus Capital Management, a manager of insurance-linked securities (ILS), has hired a climate catastrophe model development and analytics expert to lead its new research division.
Peter Dailey joins Aeolus Services, the US subsidiary of the ACM Group, as head of research.
His research has focused on predictive modeling of risk across all time scales from real-time weather forecasting to the implications of long-term climate change.
Dailey has over 20 years of industry experience, most recently as vice president of model development at RMS where he managed the US Inland Flood Model product suite and advised in several areas of model innovation. He also led RMS’ global event response teams and contributed to developing strategy around modeling climate change risk for the industry.
Prior to RMS, Dailey founded Urban Enterprise Partners (UEP), a consultancy which offered custom modeling solutions to insurance, reinsurance and capital markets clients, including real-time hurricane forecasting. He was previously vice president at AIR Worldwide where he led model development for key perils including North Atlantic hurricanes, North American winter storms, and European extra-tropical cyclones and managed AIR’s real-time forecasting service.
Dailey will report to partner and chief analytics officer Frank Fischer, who said: “We are delighted to welcome Dr. Dailey to Aeolus. His exceptional and unique experience as a leading researcher at each of the world’s most widely utilized catastrophe modeling firms is everything we’d hoped for in a candidate that will lead our new research division.
"His deep knowledge of catastrophe models and climate analytics will greatly enhance our technical ability to evaluate risk now and in the future. This appointment demonstrates Aeolus’ ability to attract market-leading talent and marks an exciting new chapter in our continued development.”
