SIRC organisers join Baden/APCIA in planning for physical conference this year
The organising committee of Singapore International Reinsurance Conference (SIRC), one of the key re/insurance events globally, has joined Baden-Baden and APCIA in planning for a physical conference this autumn.
Marc Haushofer, the chairman of the Singapore Reinsurers’ Association (SRA), has said the committee is drawing up plans for a ‘hybrid event’, combining a virtual segment alongside physical presence, for the 17th edition of SIRC in November.
The event was cancelled last year due to COVID-19. The SRA instead ran a virtual event last year called ‘SIRC 2020 Re-Mind’.
SRA is planning a conference similar to the SIRC 2020 Re-Mind event that was organised last year, with a "scaled-down ‘live event’ that will incorporate all health and safety protocols aligned with the prevailing SMMs mandated by the relevant authorities."
Haushofer said: “With the global roll-out of the COVID-19 vaccines, we are cautiously optimistic that by the time the 17th SIRC is staged in November, some of the Safe Management Measures and travel restrictions that are currently in place will be eased so that we can welcome some of our loyal international supporters back to our shores."
The theme of the 17th SIRC will be ‘Re-insurance: Quo Vadis?’, which Haushofer said "epitomises the situation that the industry faces at this critical juncture, and which offers much scope for discussion at the upcoming Conference."
Earlier this month, the organisers of two of the reinsurance industry’s biggest conferences, Baden-Baden Reinsurance Meeting, and the American Property Casualty Insurance Association’s annual conference (APCIA), also gave the green light for their events to go ahead in person this year.
The SRA has also announced its executive committee line-up for the 2021-2022 term. Haushofer, chief executive officer Asia Pacific & executive vice president of Validus Reinsurance Company, has been re-elected as SRA chairman for another term.
