Deutsche Rück appoints new head of underwriting for Swiss unit

Deutsche Rück has reshuffled its underwriting leadership at Swiss subsidiary following a key departure.

Its subsidiary Deutsche Rückversicherung Switzerland (DR Swiss) has appointed Sonja Hoffmann as director underwriting with effect from July 1.

Hoffmann will take over from Frank Versluis. She will report to Achim Bosch, managing director of DR Swiss and executive board member of Deutsche Rück Group. She is based in Zurich. 

Hoffmann joined DR Swiss in 2009. She was appointed authorised signatory in 2010. She is currently responsible for the Dutch market and heads the technical underwriting department, which she will continue to manage in her new role. She was also responsible for Belgium, Luxembourg, Austria and selected cedants in Germany. Before joining DR Swiss, Hoffmann was at Swiss Re.

Bosch said: “In Sonja Hoffmann, we are gaining a very experienced colleague for the Head of Underwriting, who has already been working for DR Swiss for 15 years and is therefore very familiar with the company and its clients. On behalf of the entire Executive Board, I personally wish her every success in her new role.”

Bosch added: “Frank Versluis not only guided his team through the difficult and challenging times of the pandemic, but also shaped the reorganisation of underwriting and successfully managed the generational change in the team.”
