Consilium expands in Cayman Islands with swoop on Aon

Aventum-owned re/insurance broker Consilium is eyeing expansion in the Cayman Islands by appointing a senior executive from Aon and a new partner with nearly 20 years’ experience in property and casualty broking.

Consilium has hired Rori-Leigh Mighty as partner for its Cayman office. She will report to Yaremis Hydes, managing partner in Consilium Cayman, who joins the business from Aon.

Rori-Leigh joins Consilium with nearly 20 years’ experience of P&C broking, seven years spent in Jamaica, handling large commercial risks and Government tenders at two of the largest brokerages, and the last 11 years in Cayman. She joins latterly from Bogle Insurance Brokers where she was a senior broker for nine years.

Hydes most recently served as a director at Aon in Cayman Islands, where she served for more than seven years in role of increasing responsibility. Prior to that, she also worked at Bogle Insurance Brokers.

Consilium secured its license in Cayman in 2023. The company’s focus in the region is providing insurance solutions in the financial and professional lines, construction, residential and commercial property sectors, as well as group medical and ancillary benefits.

James Baird, joint CEO of Consilium said: “We’re delighted to welcome Rori-Leigh to the team. She offers an impressive academic and professional record that spans a broad range of P&C, combined with entrepreneurial drive that is a hallmark of Consilium.

“Whilst Consilium generally has a policy of not putting boots on the ground in other territories, we have a unique focus in these international financial centres and offshore jurisdictions – here we uniquely serve clients without conflict with our core broker client base globally.  Our growing team is bringing real service and choice back to clients in the Cayman market.  Whilst its growing economy has created huge opportunity, clients have suffered from a lack of choice, afflicted by consolidation amongst broking firms that has resulted in a limited number of brokers and a restricted pool of capacity. Consilium is a leading global (re)insurance broker that until a few months ago was largely unknown in Cayman. In just a short time we have firmly established ourselves in the market and our presence is now keenly felt.”
