Top Hiscox executive to exit after 30 years to explore fresh opportunities

The US chief executive of Hiscox has stepped down to pursue opportunities outside the group. The specialist insurer has announced a new CEO with a leadership background at The Hartford, Chubb, ACE, Explorer Insurance, and most recently, Plymouth Rock.

Outgoing Hiscox USA CEO Kevin Kerridge (pictured left) will operate in an advisory capacity over the coming months before leaving to explore opportunities outside Hiscox at the end of September. He has been with Hiscox for nearly 30 years.

Kerridge relocated from London to New York in 2009 to oversee the launch and development of Hiscox’s US digital small business operation. He took over from Steve Langan as CEO of Hiscox USA in May 2021.

Mary Boyd (pictured right) has been appointed as new CEO of the US business, effective June 24.

Boyd joins Hiscox from Plymouth Rock Assurance, a home and auto insurance provider in the northeast of the US, where she has been CEO of its independent agency business since 2018. She began her career in actuarial roles before moving into leadership positions at The Hartford Insurance Company, ACE, Explorer Insurance, and Chubb.

Aki Hussain, group CEO, commented: “Mary’s knowledge and expertise in the insurance industry are exceptional, and I am delighted to be welcoming her to the Hiscox business. Her wealth of experience building and leading insurance businesses in the USA, and her deep understanding of the US customer market, will be instrumental in scaling our US business as we seize the opportunity ahead.

“Kevin was key to the start of our digital journey 25 years ago, and has been at the centre of building the Hiscox digital offering into the powerhouse it is today. We are immensely grateful for the deep expertise and drive that Kevin has brought to our business over his time here, and we wish him all the best with his next steps.”

Boyd said: “I am thrilled to join Hiscox and lead this talented team to its next series of successes. Aki has communicated a clear strategic vision to serve the insurance needs of small business owners across the U.S., reinforced by a consistent commitment to our partners and continued investment in technology capabilities. I am energised by the opportunity to work alongside our team to drive innovation and profitable growth in this market.”
