North America’s finest
Following on from the success of last year’s survey, Intelligent Insurer once again conducted six months of comprehensive research on the reinsurance industry.
The following tables present the most highly ranked companies in some of the core categories covered in that process, based on the responses of executives who chose specifically to answer the questions in relation to North America.
This information provides a useful backdrop to the PCI Annual Meeting as it shows which companies are held in high regard in this market.
Here, we have revealed only the winners of each category. Most shortlists, however, were much longer and comprised up to 10 companies. To see which companies featured in the full shortlists and how they fared, see the November issue of Intelligent Insurer. A full version of the Global Reinsurance Research Survey will be available shortly.
In total, some 25 percent of respondents chose to respond in relation to North America. The figures here take into account the answers of these respondents only, giving an interesting insight into which companies are the most highly regarded in the North America region alone.
The top spot varied throughout for the larger players, with Hannover Re, Munich Re, Swiss Re and Berkshire Hathaway jostling for first place. For the smaller players, Catlin Re, XL Re and RenaissanceRe were well recognised.
In terms of the brokers, Guy Carpenter received two first place positions, commended for its service to clients and innovation.
In terms of the smaller players, choice in the market is clearly beginning to grow, with both TigerRisk Partners and Holborn winning categories, although the neck and neck outcome (seen in the full table in the main report) shows the depth of the quality in the market in this regard.

Notes: *Survey respondents were asked to score each company out of 10 on various qualities. This data reflects the average score received by each company.
