Tysers eyes expansion in Asia-Pacific

Tysers is targeting growth in Asia-Pacific. Following its acquisition by AUB Group at the close of 2022, the broker is now poised to grow its global footprint, prioritising deeper market penetration in each of the 14 principal countries within the Asia-Pacific region, chief executive officer Tom Wilson told SIRC Today.

Wilson outlined that, beyond its established strengths in property and marine insurance, Tysers is looking to capitalise on emerging opportunities in health, contingency, sports and entertainment, and construction. He said the company is seeing “a big surge in interest” in these lines. As the Asia-Pacific landscape continues to evolve, the company is ready to meet rising demand with tailored solutions.

Central to this strategy are two high-profile appointments. Babita Rai, now chief executive officer of Tysers Singapore, brings more than 20 years of industry expertise, and has previously held influential roles at JB Boda and Guy Carpenter.

“We are looking to introduce some innovative new products.”

Tysers believes Rai’s leadership will be instrumental in cultivating client relationships and driving regional expansion.

William Furness-Smith has stepped in as head of marine, Asia-Pacific. His experience in managing complex hull and cargo risks, spanning more than 15 years, is expected to deliver new solutions across markets including Asia, Dubai, and Hong Kong.

“Our employees are our greatest asset.”

“We will grow our Singapore operation in the short to medium term,” Wilson said of Tysers’ expansion plans. “We are looking to introduce some innovative new products to the market, particularly in the health, marine and cyber arenas.”

In a fiercely competitive market, Wilson emphasised, Tysers’ flat organisational structure and supportive culture stand out. “Our employees are our greatest asset,” he said. By valuing each voice and fostering a collaborative environment, Tysers aims to be an attractive home for top talent in the Asia-Pacific region, he added.
