CNM appoints risk intelligence leader

CNM, a technical advisory firm headquartered in Los Angeles, has appointed Craig Spielmann as risk intelligence leader. Spielmann brings more than 35 years of experience leading risk functions and developing risk management solutions for several large organisations, including First Data, Royal Bank of Scotland, and JP Morgan Chase.

Spielmann has been at the forefront of designing advanced techniques to proactively identify and manage risk through effective, cost-efficient methods.

While serving as head of IT risk at JP Morgan, Spielmann created and commercialised Horizon, one of the first holistic governance, risk and compliance (GRC) solutions. Spielmann was also an inventor for US patent “Method & System for Managing Risk,” which was used by JP Morgan, the Federal Reserve, Bank of China, Merrill Lynch and several other major global organisations to manage their operational risk programs.

“Craig’s track record of innovation is a great fit with CNM’s mission to provide high value advisory services and solutions combining professional capabilities with hands-on support,” said Sanjay Sheth, partner at CNM.

“His wealth of practical knowledge and experience from his time at some of the top financial and fintech institutions in the world will be a highly valuable asset to our clients and internal teams.”

Spielmann’s roles within the e-commerce and fintech industries included his position of global head of enterprise risk management (ERM) strategy for First Data, where he designed and implemented several critical ERM framework components and ran board-level risk self-assessments on their top risks.

In addition, he led GRC development and analytic reporting. Previously, Spielmann held managing director level positions at RBS as head of operational risk–Americas and global head of operational risk management (ORM) systems & analytics.

Most recently, he has been advising consulting firms, equity research teams and clients on ERM/ORM frameworks and critical board assessments, GRC solutions, risk-based executive compensation and e-commerce practices.

Spielmann’s colleague while at RBS, Kate Raymond, now managing director at CNM’s New York office, said: “Craig’s approach strikes the right balance of people and business focus.

“I’ve seen him collaborate with senior business managers to successfully evolve risk management into a critical business discipline.”

Spielmann is headquartered in the firm’s Los Angeles office and will work with the global team to offer clients top tier advisory services across the risk spectrum.
