QBE lifts insider to boost underwriting market position across Asia
Re/insurer QBE has lifted an insider to lead its Asian underwriting operations and strengthen its market position in the region.
Jeremy Lau (pictured) has been appointed chief underwriting officer of QBE’s Asian business. He is based in Hong Kong and will start his new role on August 1, 2024. In his new role, Lau will be responsible for driving the firm’s underwriting strategy, governance, and performance. Lau will work closely with Rob Kosova, chief executive officer for QBE Asia, and Nick Hankin, chief underwriting officer for QBE International.
Lau has over 25 years of experience across actuarial, underwriting, and distribution functions. He has been with QBE Asia since 2016 as chief actuary and succeeds Andy White within the firm, who is now group head of underwriting strategy and performance.
Lau said: “I am delighted that the leadership team has shown confidence in me, and I do not take my added responsibilities lightly. QBE places great emphasis on talent and providing opportunities to all staff – my new appointment is testament to this. I look forward to closely collaborating with Rob and Nick moving forward.”
