Munich Re Specialty taps Aspen, XL Catlin to lead Americas underwriting
Munich Re Specialty Group (MRSG) of London has added former Aspen and XL Catlin executives to lead its underwriting team.
Steven Weiss has assumed the role of senior vice president, chief underwriting officer of ocean and inland marine insurance, and Ben Tucker had been appointed senior vice president, chief underwriting officer of specialty insurance including cyber, terrorism, political violence and financial lines.
Prior to joining Munich Re’s new underwriting unit, Weiss was a senior vice president at Aspen and Liberty International. He has 28 years' experience as a marine surveyor, loss adjuster and underwriter, having consulted as a critical witness on many aspects of marine transportation and liability claims and coordinated challenging logistics projects.
Tucker spent 12 years in various divisions of Marsh before transitioning over to XL Catlin in 2013 as the head of US terrorism and political violence division.
Both the executives will report to John Hennessy, the newly appointed CEO and president of Roanoke Group (RGI), who is charged with leading the expansion of MRSG’s underwriting platform in the Americas.
“Building a new team and platform under the Munich Re brand brings compelling new insurance products and capabilities to the marketplace,” Weiss stated.
Tucker said: “I am particularly energized and ready to apply my experience, entrepreneurial spirit and service-oriented mind set toward the success of this unique growth initiative.”
Through Munich Re Syndicate, MRSG provides marine and specialty offerings to insurance brokers in North America from its base in London.
