Liberty Mutual Re hires XL Catlin exec for international casualty role
Liberty Mutual Re, the reinsurance unit of Liberty Mutual Insurance Group, has appointed Vincent Gilardi as senior underwriter for international casualty.
Prior to joining LM Re, Gilardi was casualty senior underwriter & market lead for XL Catlin in Paris, where he worked for over 12 years. He previously held roles with Axis Capital and Partner Re.
Based in Paris, Gilardi’s remit covers business emanating from Southern Europe and the broader Mediterranean region, including Israel but excluding Spanish and Portuguese reinsurance business which will continue to be underwritten from Liberty Mutual Re’s Madrid office.
Gilardi will work closely with LM Re’s underwriters in Europe, with a particular focus on Italy where LM Re opened a new office in 2018. In Italy, Gilardi will be tasked to support the LM Re reinsurance offering with Massimiliano Fantini, general manager for reinsurance based in Milan.
Gilardi will report to Eric Sugier, Liberty Mutual Re’s head of Europe and MENA.
“Having Vincent join our Paris team shows our ability to continue to attract high performing underwriters while reinforcing Liberty Mutual Re’s strategy to build its global footprint,” said Sugier.
Shane Aldons, LM Re’s underwriting manager for international casualty added: “We are thrilled to have Vincent join the team. His expertise and experience strengthen our casualty capabilities and demonstrates our commitment to brokers and clients in the region. Vincent’s appointment augments our underwriting team in Paris and helps build strength and depth across our European platforms.”
