Liberty Mutual Re hires Hannover Re exec to spearhead underwriting strategy
Liberty Mutual Re, part of Liberty Mutual Insurance Group, has appointed Uwe Haug as head of underwriting strategy and business development for its global financial risks reinsurance business.
Uwe spent 20 years with Hannover Re, the last nine leading its global specialty portfolio as General Manager – Northern, Central and Eastern Europe, North America, Africa and Asia Pacific.
He will be based in Cologne, Germany and will lead the financial risks reinsurance business jointly with Susan Barber. He will have full underwriting authority in addition to his strategic responsibilities.
Peter Smith, Liberty Specialty Market’s executive underwriting officer and head of specialty reinsurance at Liberty Mutual Re, said: “Uwe’s appointment is a significant addition to an already highly-successful global specialty reinsurance business. His extensive knowledge and experience of leading a global underwriting team for many of the specialty classes we write will be of tremendous benefit to our clients and broker partners.
“Liberty Mutual Re continues to build out its structure, experience and global operating capabilities and we are delighted to have such a highly respected reinsurance underwriter join the team. Uwe will compliment Liberty Mutual Re’s developing global footprint and will enhance our existing underwriting expertise, product development and thought leadership required in servicing our clients and brokers.”
