Everest Re hires Maxum exec to head US casualty fac

Everest Reinsurance Company (Everest Re) has appointed Darwin Lucas as vice president and head of US casualty programmes for all general casualty and professional liability lines of coverage within the facultative reinsurance division.

In his new role, Lucas will initially focus on managing the division’s programme portfolio, and developing broader relationships with its reinsurance trading partners.

Most recently, Lucas was senior vice president of the programmes division at Maxum Specialty Insurance Group, which was recently acquired by The Hartford. Prior to that, he was president of two separate national wholesale brokerage firms that offered programmes, underwriting and brokerage services.

"Darwin's senior-level experience and knowledge of programmes fits well with our desire for deep product line expertise that we demand for our clients," said Dennis Alba, senior vice president casualty.

Laura Hunt, vice president and head of domestic casualty and professional facultative, added: "Darwin's entrepreneurial spirit and deep roots in the program marketplace is very exciting for me and our team."
