Advanta explored AI and other technology in a breakfast session at Miami Reinsurance Week

More than 100 risk-transfer professionals attended Advanta’s annual Breakfast & Technical Forum yesterday which took place at the AC Hotel Brickell, Miami, as part of Miami Reinsurance Week.

A panel of experts comprised José Miguel Varela, Gustavo Rodriguez and Tomás Fourcade from Advanta along with Gustavo Spinetta from LEARISK, a company that is part of Advanta and which specialises in risk engineering. 

The overall theme of the session was Technology and Artificial Intelligence in the Insurance Industry. The speakers explored how new technologies are transforming daily operations, the challenges it presents, and its practical applications – triggering thought-provoking discussions on how this will impact the insurance industry.

Following opening remarks from Varela, Fourcade conducted a quick survey with the audience whereby they could answer via an app. He asked them which AI tools they currently use at work. Some 16 per cent of the audience said they use them every day, 27 per cent said occasionally, 38 per cent said they rarely use them and 19 per cent said they have never used them to date.

He also asked the audience to type in the tools they use most if they do use AI in work. The most popular by some distance was ChatGPT followed by Copilot. He also screened an AI-generated video of himself talking about insurance in various languages to illustrate the power of the tool.
