Lockton swoops on Descartes for head of parametric UK & Europe

Global broker Lockton has lured a commercial director from Paris-based managing general agent (MGA) Descartes Underwriting to head up its parametric offering for the UK and Europe.

Paul Jones has joined Lockton as head of parametric solutions - UK and Europe, after leaving Descartes recently where he has been replaced by ex-WTW Matthew James.

Jones most recently served as commercial director at Descartes Underwriting after joining the company in 2021 as a business development director for UK and Ireland. Prior to that, he served in various roles including at AXA Corporate Solutions where he spent seven years, later moving to AXA XL for three years. He was previously the senior motor underwriter at Arista Insurance and motor underwriter at Allianz where he began his career.

Commenting on his new role on LinkedIn, Jones said: “As my time with Descartes Underwriting comes to an end, I felt very honoured last night to have the opportunity to share the evening with my colleagues in Paris. I've been very fortunate over the last 2.5 years to have worked with some incredibly talented individuals. The innovation and collaboration shown during this period is probably the best I have seen in my career to date. I'm proud to have contributed to the success of the U.K. business for DU and the major part it has become within the company. I wish all of my colleagues the best for the future, it's certainly bright!”
