XL Catlin appoints CUO international financial lines
Re/insurer XL Catlin has promoted Tim Powell to chief underwriting officer for international financial lines (IFL).
Powell is currently XL Catlin’s IFL product group leader for Asia-Pacific where he leads a team of FL Underwriters in Australia, Singapore, Hong Kong, and Shanghai.
In his new position, Powell will be responsible for the underwriting performance of XL Catlin’s financial lines portfolio in all geographies outside North America. He will also develop and implement the overall strategic objectives for this line of business, and oversee the development of innovative new products and services.
Powell will be based in London from May 1 and report to Jason Harris, chief executive, international - insurance. He will also join XL Catlin’s international leadership team.
Powell joined Catlin Australia in 2009 after working at Allianz, AIG and Sedgwick. At XL Catlin, he was responsible for building the financial & professional risks portfolio in Australia, as well as the underwriting infrastructure.
Harris commented: “Tim has effectively managed large, diverse portfolios and has in-depth experience with the different distribution channels. I’m confident that Tim’s technical expertise, strategic perspective and inclusive leadership style will be instrumental as we continue to strengthen our position as a leading IFL market.”
