Willis Towers Watson hires natural resources head from Oliver Wyman
Broker Willis Towers Watson has appointed Thorsten Querfurt as the company’s new global industry leader for natural resources.
Querfurt takes over the role from Nick Dussuyer, who will now focus solely on his role as head of clients and industries for Western Europe.
Querfurt will be responsible for leading the company's growth efforts in natural resources that comprises oil, gas and chemicals, metals and mining, and power and utilities, including renewable energy and nuclear.
Querfurt joins WTW from Oliver Wyman, where he spent four years as a partner in its energy practice. Prior to that, he spent ten years as a director with Corven Consulting, a privately owned management consultancy, focused on business transformation in the energy sector.
Eric Speer, head of Willis Towers Watson's global industry group, said: "Thorsten will be responsible for embedding Willis Towers Watson’s holistic and differentiated approach to working with clients across the full breadth of human capital and risk issues, and to leverage our deep industry expertise to the benefit of our clients."
Querfurt added: "This is a very exciting time – the natural resources industry is going through some fascinating changes and Willis Towers Watson is in a great position to help clients navigate their emerging risks and challenges.
"Companies are facing a complex mix of evolving risks, including geopolitical and regulatory change, the ongoing threat of cyber-attacks on critical infrastructure, increasing use of digitalisation and new technology to enhance efficiencies and drive down costs, whilst artificial intelligence and robotics will fundamentally alter the future of work. These are just a few of the dramatic and disruptive changes that are impacting companies in the industry."
