Willis Re taps ex-Munich Re for Australia director role
Willis Re, the reinsurance business of broker Willis Towers Watson, has hired Cameron Hick as a director for its Australian business.
Hick will focus on client advocacy, delivering strategic advice, structuring assistance and insights to Willis Re’s clients in relation to their reinsurance purchase. He will also work towards strengthening Willis Re's relationships with the global reinsurance community.
He will relocate from Switzerland to Australia to take up his role in Sydney, starting February 2021 and report to John Philipsz.
Hick has more than 20 years of experience in reinsurance. Since 2017, he has been based in Zurich as a global accounts executive for PartnerRe where he was responsible for developing frameworks to improve the firm’s client management approach, growing its portfolio and strengthening business relationships.
Prior to that, Hick enjoyed a long career with Munich Re, working in Melbourne, Sydney and Germany. During his time at Munich Re, he had a range of roles in both treaty and facultative reinsurance culminating in his position as client manager and head of business planning, leading the non-life client management team.
Philipsz, CEO of Willis Re Australia, said: “Cameron’s deep reinsurance experience and knowledge of the global markets will add considerably to our core reinsurance structuring and placement capabilities. He is well known to our clients and has a strong alignment with our client advocacy model. Cameron brings a highly complementary, solutions-focused expertise to our offering and we are excited to have him on-board.”
Cameron Green, chair of Willis Re Australia, noted that the appointment reflects Willis Re’s commitment to the Australia, New Zealand and Pacific markets.
“The cornerstone of our ability to provide clients with exceptional advice and execution is the depth of talent within our business. We will continue to add individuals who share our culture and our relentless client-first focus to Willis Re,” said Green.
