UIB boosts aviation practice with hire of senior Middle East specialist
International re/insurance broker UIB has tapped a senior specialist from Abu Dhabi National Insurance to bolster its aviation and space capabilities in the Middle East.
The broker has appointed Osama Altajer (pictured) as aviation production and risk management executive. Based in UIB’s offices in London, he will report directly to Miles Taffs, managing director of aviation division.
Altajer has over 20 years of experience negotiating with global brokers & insurers, innovating new facilities, handling claims, underwriting, and transacting aviation re/insurance. Prior to joining UIB, he spent nine years with Abu Dhabi National Insurance Co (ADNIC) as SVP commercial underwriting.
He joined ADNIC in 2013 to lead the aviation underwriting team. Before ADNIC, Altajer was the director of treasury & insurance at Gulf Air, focusing on managing the various risk exposures the airline faces.
Taffs said: “Our Aviation & Space team at UIB already possesses a wealth of knowledge and expertise and Osama’s appointment only serves to make our offer even more compelling. His experience in the sector will add strong value in a multitude of areas within the business and we are looking forward to the future with him as a key member of our team.”
Shaun Barrington, chief executive officer of UIB, added: “Osama’s appointment forms an important part of our long-term vision for growth for the company. His experience in the industry speaks for itself and will further consolidate the trust our clients have in receiving the best possible service.”
Altajer commented: “I am very excited to be joining UIB for the next stage of my career. The team is widely respected, and I am looking forward to adding value to the UIB Group and its client base in what is a dynamic period for the company and the market.”
