Top Canopius officer appears at US surplus lines broker and MGA
South Shore Insurance Underwriters (SSIU), a niche, cat exposed, commercial and residential property surplus lines brokerage and MGA, has brought in a senior Canopius and Lloyd’s of London leader for top underwriting position.
Andrew Fowles (Pictured) has joined SSIU as chief underwriting officer (CUO). He has previously been with the Canopius Group for almost 12 years, where he most recently held the position deputy head of delegated authority.
Fowles brings a wealth of experience on the carrier side having worked in both Lloyd’s of London and the US domestic E&S market for 27 years. He has held various underwriting positions within the London market before becoming president & CUO of Canopius US Insurance.
Taylor Norton, SSIU founder said: “We have grown organically with the support of our carrier partners in the US coastal catastrophe space through strong underwriting principals and controls, executed on best-in-class systems and technology. We continue to strengthen our value proposition to our carrier partners who have supported us, and our insureds, throughout our journey with specific knowledge to guide our next phase of growth. Andrew brings experience across geography and class while strengthening our core business with a new level of sophistication in reinsurance and regulation. We are very excited for what the future holds.”
Fowles added: “This is an exciting time for the company. I have worked with hundreds of MGA’s in both in London and the US, and SSIU has always separated themselves from the crowd with its’ youthful leadership, underwriting discipline and platform investments. I look forward to using my experience in product development and territory expansion to help SSIU unlock a new level of success.”
