Tokio Marine Kiln partners in marine automation push
Tokio Marine Kiln (TMK) has entered into a partnership with NTT DATA UK to develop robotics services.
NTT DATA UK’s Cargo 10 Virtual Worker is the first of several planned robotic process automation (RPA) initiatives at TMK and will help automate marine transactions to deliver improved operational efficiencies and data quality, according to the company. The result is faster transactions, fewer errors and the ability to process transactions out of office hours, the company added.
The initiative was led by Darren Sharp, group head of IT at TMK and the technology implementation was undertaken by NTT DATA UK using its robotics-as-a-service BluePrism platform.
Simon Williams, CEO NTT DATA UK, said: “As RPA technology continues to advance, we are developing more innovative approaches to automation. Insurers are focusing on reducing operating expenses, increasing broker responsiveness and removing repetitive work so business teams can focus on higher value activities. RPA is a core component of any organisation’s digital approach."
Sharp added: “While originally an experiment initiated by the IT department, TMK is now embracing RPA technology. Following a clear demonstration of the impressive benefits, the business is actively identifying and prioritising further improvement opportunities, with a growing list of processes ripe for automation. The cloud-based service is extremely cost-effective, frees us from traditional infrastructure constraints and allows some of the services that IT delivers to scale up as rapidly as the business needs them to.”
