Tokio Marine’s GCube eyeing ‘best’ talent in industry for global expansion

Specialist renewable energy insurer  GCube Underwriting, a part of Tokio Marine HCC, has tapped a senior executive from Occam with 15 years of underwriting and brokerage experience gained at RKH Speciality (Howden Specialty) and Chaucer Syndicate, to lead its London Market underwriting in a move to strengthen its global expansion strategy.

Olly Litterick (pictured right) joins from Occam Underwriting as head of London Market underwriting, while Josh Shimali (pictured left) takes on the role of head of onshore underwriting.

In his new role, Litterick will help build on the company’s robust underwriting performance and global expansion. Shimali will take on responsibility for planning and delivering on  GCube’s overall underwriting strategy and ensure the company sustains its period of profitability through new and existing business. The duo will also contribute to strategic planning and overall underwriting management as the company deploys new resources to build new relationships across the globe.

Shimali has been with the business for over a decade. Litterick previously served as divisional director at RKH Speciality, renewable energy underwriter at Chaucer Syndicates, and most recently as director – head of low carbon energy at Occam Underwriting.

GCube stated that over the last two years the company has invested heavily in talent across its claims and underwriting teams to help enter new markets, solidify its position and to capture new growth in the global renewable energy market.

Fraser McLachlan, CEO of  GCube, said: “Through investing in and hiring the best people in the industry we’ve established ourselves as a leading renewables underwriter, which prides itself on the extensive knowledge, experience, and integrity we bring to the market. Our two latest appointments will contribute to defining and building upon our strong underwriting strategy and help generate and sustain our profitable business model in current and future markets. We’re extremely excited to welcome Olly to the organisation and that Josh has elected to accept this new senior role within the business.”

Litterick commented: “Over the last few years I’ve had the pleasure of watching  GCube (from afar) build and consolidate its leading position in the renewable energy insurance market. This, coupled with the company’s exciting recent global expansion and significant, ongoing investment in its people, made the company an obvious choice for this next step. I’m very excited to join the company at this exciting time in the renewable energy insurance space, and I look forward to working with the rest of the specialised team to further consolidate  GCube's leading position in the market.”

Shimali added: “The renewable energy insurance market is witnessing immense growth, with new entrants pouring in, vying for extra capacity and market share. Right now, however, it’s important that market leaders like  GCube continue to provide stability to the market by understanding risk properly and sharing best practices with the wider market. This is the strategy that  GCube has found success in, and this is the strategy I look forward to crafting and building upon in my new position.”
