Swiss insurer Baloise hit by cyber attack

Swiss insurer  Baloise is investigating a cyber attack detected on April 11 impacting its IT infrastructure and services, mainly in Germany.

Baloise said it is taking countermeasures to fend off the attack and the compromised systems have been identified and isolated. However, this has resulted in temporary restrictions that are affecting parts of the sales organisation of tied agents of Basler Germany.

The insurer believes, as per the latest information, that “no company data or customer data has been stolen and no systems have been encrypted”.

But warned that the defensive measures put in place means the customers and employees in Germany are currently experiencing some restrictions on the use of its services and IT infrastructure.

“The defensive measures may lead to further temporary restrictions on Baloise’s services,” the company said in a statement reporting the cyber attack. “At present, Baloise does not believe that any other systems will have to be isolated.

“We will continue to do everything we can to protect Baloise and the data of its customers and partners from such attacks.”

“We apologise to all affected customers and partners for any inconvenience caused,” it added.
