Stink bomb set off outside Lloyd’s by climate protestors
Lloyd's of London was again targeted by protestors today (June 1) who released a stink device outside its main entrance.
Insurance Rebellion, a body formed in April with the aim of ending the insurance of fossil fuel projects and companies, worked with Extinction Rebellion to set off the device.
The protesters specifically want the industry to stop supporting the West Cumbria coal mine and all other fossil fuel projects.
The Cumbrian coal mine was originally approved by Cumbria local government but is now the subject of a public inquiry.
This is just the latest direct-action protest to target Lloyd’s in recent weeks. Two weeks ago, on May 17, protestors targeted 13 cities around the globe and targeted Lloyd’s specifically.
A spokesperson for Lloyd’s said at the time: “ Lloyd’s is committed to accelerating its transition towards a more sustainable insurance and reinsurance marketplace, and has set out specific actions and commitments to align with the goals of the Paris Agreement.
“We are actively involved in constructive engagement on the issue of climate change and continue to explore the ways in which Lloyd’s can support a responsible transition.”
