Specialty insurer Mosaic takes on lawyers to lead tax liability charge
Upstart global specialty insurer Mosaic plucked a tax lawyer who’d taken up underwriting for Ryan Specialty to become head of international tax on the transactional liability team, then bolstered that team with another tax specialist from outside the insurance world.
Will Gay (Pictured Left) has taken the post as head of international tax in London, joining Mosaic from Ryan Specialty where he did two years in transactional risks after a longer string of tax counsel and advisory across three law firms dating back to 2004.
Ze’ev Deutsch (Pictured Right) has also joined the underwriting team in the New York office after coming to Mosaic from a post with Fried Frank legal counsel where he focused on fund formation, opportunity zones, cross-border inversions, and other complex tax matters.
Mosaic, a 2021 debutante coupled with a Lloyd’s syndicate, lists transactional liability coverage, which includes tax liability insurance and representations and warranties insurance (RWI), as one of seven current lines of business in its specialty offer.
Mosaic’s global head of tax, transactional liability, Jon Hutchens, commented: “We’re thrilled to welcome Will and Ze’ev to Mosaic as we grow our transactional team and demonstrate our commitment to solving global tax-risk challenges. Will brings deep experience as a practitioner, and a sophisticated approach to underwriting that allows us to meet growing demand for this product and capital in critical regions.
Hutchens added: “Ze’ev’s arrival also comes at a pivotal time for the tax-insurance business. With economic forecasts uncertain, and a renewed emphasis on tax enforcement, clients are increasingly looking to transactional liability insurance to manage tax risk. His expertise on complicated tax issues helps Mosaic offer unmatched service in this space.”
