Sompo’s NA reinsurance head Hanke exits for ‘leading brokerage’ after 10 years
Sompo International’s president of North America reinsurance Steven Hanke (pictured left) has taken a new position at a “leading brokerage firm” following almost 10 years at the global specialty re/insurer.
The company has appointed Margaret Hyland (pictured right) to take up the key position vacated by Hanke. Based in New York, Hyland will report to Christopher Donelan, chief executive officer of global reinsurance at Sompo International Holdings.
Hyland has over 30 years of experience in the North American re/insurance industry, having held leadership positions with various companies including Allied World, CNA, Axis Capital and Willis Re. She previously served as executive vice president, head of North American professional liability reinsurance at Sompo International.
Hanke joined Sompo in 2013 as the head of US professional liability reinsurance from WR Berkley, with a vast background at Guy Carpenter, Aon for nearly eight years, and prior to that, at GenRe for more than 15 years.
“It has been a great pleasure working with Steve over the past decade. He has been instrumental in helping us build the North America Reinsurance portfolio to where we are today,” said Donelan. “We are grateful for his contributions to our success and look forward to having the opportunity to work with him again in the future.”
Donelan added: “We are excited to see Maggie step into her new role given her wealth of leadership experience and strong relationships within the (re)insurance industry. Our ability to attract and develop the depth of talent on our team is one of our greatest strengths and we are confident Maggie has the reputation and expertise needed to take our business forward.”
