Sompo expands London presence with new A&H unit, appoints leader
Bermuda-based property/casualty re/insurer Sompo International has launched a new accident and health (A&H) insurance unit.
The company has appointed Dale Willetts as executive vice president, head of accident and health, to lead the new team that includes six underwriters located in its London office. Willetts will report to Richard Housley, chief underwriting officer Sompo International London Market Insurance.
Willetts was head of underwriting A&H at ANV since 2012 and, prior to that, was in a similar role at Travelers.
The new team will write a broad portfolio of global A&H business written primarily through the company’s Lloyd's Syndicate 5151.
"We are very pleased to welcome the A&H team to Sompo as we continue to expand our London presence into new product offerings and distribution channels," Housley commented. "With strong broker relations built over decades serving this niche market, the team’s client-centric underwriting approach complements Sompo’s reputation for collaboration and responsive service. Dale and his colleagues are a great addition to the London insurance platform that we have built over the last four years."
