Skuld hires former underwriting director for P&I role

Skuld, a marine insurance provider, has expanded its protection and indemnity (P&I) business with the appointment of John Howe as senior vice president of business development, effective late September.

Based in London, Howe will be responsible for developing the P&I portfolio, and will report to Gregory Thomas, chief business development officer.

Howe has more than 40 years of experience within the shipping and insurance industries, having most recently served as an underwriting director for North of England P&I Club, a company he has spent 27 years working for.

Here he was mainly responsible for underwriting across Europe, particularly around the Mediterranean, the Baltic States, Scandinavia and Russia.

Howe has also served as an underwriter for the MSMI Hull and Machinery Club. He began his marine career with 14 years at Cunard.

Ståle Hansen, president and chief executive officer of Skuld, said: “I am delighted that we have been able to attract a market figure of John’s calibre and reputation. He has an enormous amount of experience which will be invaluable as we develop our offering. He is well respected by all in the market and will be a great addition to our very talented team.”

Howe added: “Skuld is a truly unique company and I am very pleased to be joining. I am really looking forward to helping Ståle and the team further enhance Skuld’s already excellent reputation for service, as well as helping to develop and grow its diversified marine insurance offering.”
