SiriusPoint-backed start-up looks to expand in climate risk transfer market with new partner
Parameter Climate, a climate underwriting and distribution advisory firm backed by global re/insurer SiriusPoint, has hired a new partner and head of origination to help expand in the “burgeoning” climate risk transfer market.
Based in London, Ralph Renner (pictured) will be responsible for the build-out and management of the company’s distribution of structured financial products to buyers and brokers in the market for climate risk transfer.
Renner has been focused on climate risk management for the past decade, having spent the earlier part of his career trading European energy for banks, utilities and merchants.
Parameter Climate was founded by Martin Malinow, a pioneer in the parametric climate market. SiriusPoint acquired a significant ownership stake in the start-up in October 2021. Additionally, it provides multi year capacity and paper.
Commenting on the appointment, Malinow, chief executive of Parameter, said: “We are thrilled to have Ralph join as part of our founding team. His extensive experience, relationships and market knowledge will allow the company to engage and serve clients across many different industries, initially focused on Energy but rapidly expanding into other verticals impacted by climate.”
Renner noted: “We believe that corporations and public entities will be compelled to go beyond disclosing their climate-driven exposures, ultimately being mandated to actively manage these risks with customized solutions.
“Structuring, underwriting and distributing these solutions requires a unique skillset which our team at Parameter Climate has developed through decades of market leadership, strongly positioning us to be impactful in the continued growth of climate risk transfer.”.
