RMS makes new hire to lead US inland flood model

Risk modelling and data analytics firm RMS has appointed Pete Dailey as vice president to lead flood model development in its California headquarters.

Dailey, an expert in climate catastrophe model development and analytics, has over 15 years of industry experience. As vice president, he will oversee the upcoming release of the RMS US inland flood model, set to launch in spring 2018. Dailey will also lead the development of innovative modeling tools for improved risk management before, during and after a climate event.

Peter Ulrich, head of catastrophe models, said: "Pete brings a deep understanding and expertise of natural catastrophes to the model management team. As the leader of our highly anticipated US Inland Flood Model, his knowledge of this peril, and the risk management challenges it presents to the insurance industry will be central to informing the implementation and technical understanding of our clients."

Dailey joins RMS from consultancy firm Urban Enterprise Partners, where, as founder, he provided custom modeling solutions and analytics to insurance, reinsurance, and NGO clients. Previously, he was senior vice president at Verisk Climate and vice president at AIR Worldwide. He led model research and development for catastrophic tropical cyclones, winter storms, severe thunderstorms and storm surge, and he contributed to the development of emerging risk models for perils such as wildfire, cyber terrorism, and inland flood.

Dailey commented: "Next year’s launch of the US Inland Flood Model signals the single largest model development project in the more than 25-year history of RMS. I’m thrilled to join the model product management team, and I look forward to contributing to the development of the company’s innovative risk management tools and bringing the new US flood model to market."
