QBE Re lures ex-Lancashire/Guy Carp for top Bermuda underwriting post

QBE Re has plucked a senior executive from Aeolus Capital who has also worked at Lancashire and Guy Carpenter for its top underwriting post in Bermuda, to support the growing demand for specialty and property reinsurance.

Andy Richardson (pictured) joins QBE Re as head of underwriting for Bermuda. He will focus on supporting the development of QBE Re’s Bermuda platform as well as further strengthening the global property capability.

He will report to Tracey Gibbons, head of QBE Re Bermuda and will take up the new role at the beginning of June subject to Bermuda immigration.

Richardson comes from Aeolus Capital Management, Bermuda, where he was portfolio manager and has experience in senior roles at Lancashire Insurance and Guy Carpenter.

QBE Re said it has seen increased demand from global clients for specialty and property reinsurance in Bermuda.

Chris Killourhy, managing director, QBE Re, said: “I am pleased that we have been able to attract someone of Andy’s calibre to QBE, whilst demonstrating our commitment to the Bermuda market. Andy’s background, as both a broker and an underwriter in several jurisdictions, coupled with his extensive knowledge of the Bermuda and global property reinsurance markets, will be a huge asset.”
