Optio poaches Pioneer exec to boost political violence and terrorism unit

Optio Underwriting, the specialty MGA, has hired an experienced political violence and terrorism underwriter from Pioneer, now K2 International.

Mark Kelsey joins as senior underwriter, political violence and terrorism, effective immediately. Based in London but with a global focus, Kelsey will report to Chris Kirby, head of political violence and terrorism.

Kelsey brings more than 10 years of industry experience to the role, the majority of which has been spent in crisis management, including kidnap and ransom and political violence and terrorism. Kelsey joins from Pioneer, now K2 International, where since 2018 he worked as an underwriter in the PVT team.

Kirby said: “Mark is a fantastic hire for Optio and will be a great addition to the Group. His experience complements that of our existing team, and his appointment is a critical part in our strategic plan for expansion. He will primarily focus on the UK and Europe as well as the US and will support the ongoing efforts in emerging markets. I look forward to welcoming Mark to the team.”
