Munich Re-backed insurtech Wrisk expands leadership team
Insurtech startup Wrisk, which is backed by firms like Munich Re, Hiscox and QIC, has made leadership appointments following its latest funding round that is said to have surpassed its target of £500,000 in under five days.
Nimeshh Patel has been appointed as chief operating officer. He was previously a member of Wrisk’s advisory board. Patel has over 20 years of experience and joins from BuzzFeed Europe, where he most recently held the position of vice president (VP) business operations & strategy. His previous positions also include VP EMEA at Drawbridge and COO at AOL Europe.
Other appointments include Stewart Duncan, who will join in May as chief data officer, and Sima Patel as head of marketing.
In his previous role as chief analytics officer at Simply Business, Duncan helped deliver a £400 million valuation for the business that was acquired by Travelers Insurance in 2017.
Patel (Sima) has 17 years of experience in digital and product marketing, most recently at global ticket marketplace StubHub, an eBay company. Whilst at BlackRock, Patel led digital marketing for the investment manager’s retail business in EMEA, and prior to that, established digital marketing channels at Schroders.
Wrisk CEO Niall Barton said: “Here at Wrisk we’ve got big ambitions – we’re giving insurance a much-needed digital upgrade to make the buying, maintaining and claiming on different types of insurance easy and painless. But we also know that we’re only as good as the people we hire. Fortunately, we’re building a truly exceptional team, and we’re delighted to be able to welcome Nimeshh, Stewart and Sima into the Wrisk family.”
